Spa Grande at Grand Wailea
The largest spa in Hawaii – Spa Grande at Grand Wailea – has come up with a new way to showcase its sustainable, results-oriented treatment options using the Hawaiian taro plant. Spa Grande’s newest treatment on its “FARM-TO-SPA” menu is the Taro Skin Soother, a unique after-sun and vitamin-boosting ritual.
Many Maui visitors request a cooling, refreshing body treatment after spending time in sunny Wailea. Although there were many treatments designed to help with sunburn, none were specifically designed to address all the aspects of tired, sore and angry skin. Spa Grande spent 10 months working with Chana and Hoapili Ane at the Maui Tropical Plantation’s Mala’ai Poi farm and Holly Engelmann with Ala Lani Bath and Body researching the best way to utilize the taro plant which is high in vitamins and antioxidants, and beneficial in suppressing inflammation and reducing irritation for the skin.
The re-hydrating poi body masque has Hawaiian taro as the key ingredient, harvested on Maui and infused into each product that is applied to the skin. Taro is rich in vitamin E, potassium and magnesium.
At Spa Grande, the vitamin-boosting Taro Skin Soother treatment starts by massaging a thick creamy taro body mask onto the entire body. A green ti leaf wrap is applied and covered in soothing linen sheets to allow the vitamins and extracts to be absorbed by the skin. Next, a full head and face massage is performed using a soothing aloe gel with taro leaf extract and a combination of essential oils and plant extracts to calm and hydrate the skin. The guest also receives an exfoliating foot massage with taro leaf powder and Hawaiian sea salt. After a refreshing shower rinse, the treatment concludes with a full-body soothing massage using moisturizing aloe gel, coconut oil, taro leaf extract and essential oil specially formulated for their healing abilities. This helps to calm and hydrate the skin after too much sun or other pollutants.
In addition to the Taro Skin Soother, Spa Grande also offers several other “Farm-to-Spa” services, including the Ali`i Honey Steam Cocoon and Honey Macadamia Nut Immunity Boost body therapies, with rooftop honey harvested at the Grand Wailea property.
