Wailea, (Maui) Hawai’i, August 31, 2018 – Fairmont Kea Lani, Hawai’i’s only all-suite and villa luxury resort, along Women At Accor Generation resort committee and Fairmont Hui ‘Ohana are pleased to celebrate Hawai’i’s beloved monarch, Queen Lili’uokalani with the commission and dedication of a sculpture. The statue will be prominently placed in the lobby at Fairmont Kea Lani for all to view. A special dedication and blessing of the statue is scheduled for Friday, September 7 at 10:00am in the hotel lobby. The public is invited to join for this joyous celebration.
The blessing and ceremony will be led by Lei‘ohu Ryder, a spiritual leader, cultural educator and emissary of aloha. Lili’uokalani Trust’s Kīpuka Maui, will perform an ‘oli to the queen written by Aunty Malia Craver, a cultural expert. A special hula presentation will be made by eleven year old U‘i Launaole Pualani Fernandez, of Hālau Hula Kauluokalā. She will be dancing to the song Lilli‘u E.
“It is exciting to be able to share the legacy of Queen Lili’uokalani with our guests and colleagues through the dedication of her statue,” explains Michael Pye, Fairmont Kea Lani’s general manager. “Our resort selected Queen Lili‘uokalani as the subject for this statue because we share many of her values including perpetuating the island’s cultural heritage as well as the care and education of Hawai’i’s children.”
Master artist and Maui sculptor Dale Zarrella was commissioned by the resort to create a beautiful sculpture of Hawai’i’s revered monarch Queen Lili’uokalani. Dale’s most famous works include Saint Damien of Moloka’i which was presented to Pope Benedict at the Vatican.
Fairmont Kea Lani’s Hui ‘Ohana committee is comprised of leaders and colleagues dedicated to sharing the culture of Hawai‘i with both guest and colleagues and cultivating a connection to the history of Maui and Hawai‘i. The group organizes monthly celebrations, guests programming, community partnerships and colleague educational opportunities.
The resort is proud to have a committee dedicated to gender equality. Women at Accor Generation is made up of men and women working to stand up against gender stereotypes and achieve gender equality. At Fairmont Kea Lani, the committee provides a forum to share mutual solidarity, support, dialogue and experience, toward the vision of eradicating gender bias, promoting gender equality, and helping every woman to achieve her ambition.
