George Lopez Sunday, February 17, 2019; Castle Theater, 8:00 pm
George Lopez was most recently seen in his HBO comedy special, The Wall, which debuted in August 2017. His past HBO Specials include America’s Mexican in 2007; Tall, Dark, and Chicano in 2009 (also nominated for a Grammy for Best Comedy Album), and It’s Not Me, It’s You in 2012. Lopez remains a hit with television viewers with his comedy series, Lopez on TV Land. Produced by and starring Lopez, the series explores how he struggles between his two worlds and crises that are often of his own making. In 2014, he starred in and cocreated the multicamera ensemble comedy, Saint George on FX. Lopez also hosted Lopez Tonight, a late-night television talk show on TBS, which represented Lopez’s return to series television after cocreating, writing, producing, and starring in the groundbreaking hit sitcom, George Lopez, which ran for six seasons on ABC. George Lopez remains among the top five comedies and top 20 weekly programs in syndication. Lopez was also seen in the Lionsgate inspirational drama, Spare Parts in 2015. Produced by Lopez, the film is based on a true story about four undocumented Mexican-American teenagers from Phoenix who team up to build an underwater robot that wins the national robotics competition. Hawaii Youth Symphony Monday, February 18, 2019; Castle Theater; 4:00 pm With special guest, Raiatea Helm Music is an extraordinary discipline with the power to challenge the mind, nurture the soul, and open doorways to a new world of opportunities. Children who make music embody commitment, discipline, teamwork, and persistence, all proven to be vital to success in school and life. At Hawaii Youth Symphony (HYS), we aspire to make music a right, not a privilege, so that we can empower children everywhere with the joy, skills, and character-building that music-making uniquely provides. Over 100 of the state’s finest high school musicians comprise Youth Symphony I, the top orchestra of Hawaii Youth Symphony. Under the baton of the organization’s newly appointed music director, Dr. John Devlin, Youth Symphony I will perform music of local composer Michael-Thomas Foumai, masterworks by Beethoven and Shostakovich, and in a very special opportunity, with the exquisite talents of Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning and Grammy-nominated artist, Raiatea Helm. Established as a nonprofit organization in 1964, Hawaii Youth Symphony annually serves over 700 students, ages 7-18, through music-making programs for beginners through advanced performers. Our students perform in settings from string quartets to full symphony orchestras, band, and jazz ensembles. This season, HYS students represent over 100 public, private, and home schools spread throughout Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and Molokai. Music Director Dr. John Devlin previously held positions with the National Symphony Orchestra, Princeton Symphony, and two youth orchestra organizations in Virginia. Youth Symphony I has previously been showcased on National Public Radio’s “From the Top” with host Christopher O’Riley; has performed with renowned classical artists including Midori, David Shifrin, and Conrad Tao; Hawaiian musicians Robert Cazimero, Keola Beamer, and Makana; and the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra. In 2014, the orchestra was nominated for two Na Hoku Hanohano awards for the album, “The Golden Ages of Waikiki,” featuring Jimmy Borges and the Waitiki 7, in which the orchestra paid tribute to the midcentury music of Martin Denny and Arthur Lyman. Starry Night Cinema: INCREDIBLES 2 Friday, February 22, 2019; A&B Amphitheater; 7:00 pm, gates at 5:30 pm Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents another Starry Night Cinema event! Bring a low-back beach chair and/or a blanket and spread out on the lawn for a special screening of “The Incredibles 2!” Come early and enjoy preshow entertainment with DREW MARTIN and an art activity for the kids prior to the film. (voice of Huck Milner) to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life. It’s a tough transition for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jack’s emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Kainani Kahaunaele Saturday, February 23, 2019; McCoy Studio Theater; 7:30 pm
Born and raised on Kaua‘i, Kainani Kahaunaele works with a sense of deep responsibility to perpetuate the Hawaiian language, particularly through the art of Hawaiian songwriting and poetry. Winner of five Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards, Kainani is a sought-after performer whose original compositions have appeared in films, documentaries, and TV shows. As a lecturer at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo’s College of Hawaiian Language, a wife and mother of three, and a musician, Kainani weaves the revitalization of Hawaiian language and culture into all aspects of her life. She has performed all over the world, worked with Hawai‘i’s most talented musicians, accompanied the finest hula dancers, and witnessed children, adults, and kūpuna singing and dancing to her songs in countless school and community events. Weaving her life’s purpose seamlessly into her work, her music, and her relationships, Kainani embraces her kuleana—a dedication that shines forth in her songs. Master Class with Jacob Jonas Wednesday, February 27, 2019; Omori A; 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm
The class is designed for intermediate to advanced dancers; high school age and older. Late-comers and earlydepartures will not be allowed. Jacob Jonas The Company workshops offer an intimate opportunity for intermediate to advanced dancers (high school and up) to experience the artistic processes that Jacob Jonas uses in the studio with his company, learn repertory, and expand artistic practice. Taught by Jacob Jonas and members of the company, the class focuses on teaching a versatile skill set, including breakdance, contemporary ballet, partnering, and acrobatic techniques. The core values of our classes are: Curiosity: To encourage students to think inquisitively and with innovation. Trust: To build reliance on the integrity and strength of oneself and others through confidence and collaboration. Versatility: To foster an open-minded environment where students are exposed to new skill sets and are able to

Led by its 26-year-old namesake, Jacob Jonas the Company has gained an international profile for honest storytelling, visceral performances, and visual content creation. The Company tours throughout North America showcasing their unique mix of contemporary ballet, breakdance, and acrobatic movement, bringing dance into the world in new and exciting ways. The Company was named one of “12 standout companies of 2018” by the “Los Angeles Times” and “25 to Watch” by “Dance” magazine in 2018, and they have choreographed and danced for several branded campaigns, including James Perse, Sony, Spotify, and Nike. Artist 2 Artist: Henry Kapono: Welcome 2 My Paradise

Henry Kapono, a household name throughout Hawai‘i and the Pacific, has created a broad range of musical expressionwith his 20th solo album, “Welcome 2 My Paradise.” This long-awaited collection of original songs was largely written
while travelling, and was inspired by Henry’s many fans around the world. “W2MP” celebrates Henry’s love of life and a belief that everybody can achieve if we embrace each day as a gift, love one another, and recognize that the little things very often are the big things. Throughout his career, Kapono has developed a diverse fan base and won numerous Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards. At this special concert, Henry will talk about the inspiration behind his music and play his

Corinne Bailey Rae Friday, March 1, 2019; Castle Theater; 7:30 pm
Opening up the show will be Mike Love From Leeds, England,
singer/songwriter/musician Corinne Bailey Rae shot to stardom with her self-titled #1 UK debut album in 2006, featuring the global hits “Put Your Records On“ and “Like A Star.” Bailey Rae has received two Grammy Awards, two MOBOS (the UK’s Music of Black Origin awards), alongside multiple nominations including BRIT and BET Awards. She was awarded her first Grammy in 2008 for Album of the Year when featured on Herbie Hancock’s “River: The Joni Letters.” Her second album, “The Sea” was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize. The subsequent EP, “Is This Love,” garnered a Grammy for Best R&B Performance. Bailey Rae returned in 2016 with “boundary-defying, epic music” (NPR) for her third studio album, “The Heart Speaks in Whispers,” also declared “the best R&B album of 2016” (The Guardian). The album featured the stunning “Green Aphrodisiac,” named one of the “10 best R&B songs of 2016” (Billboard) and was selected by President Obama for his summer playlist. The new songs soared in her live performances as Bailey Rae embarked on a worldwide tour, including festivals and a special guest appearance for Stevie Wonder’s BST Hyde Park London concert. Bailey Rae continues to collaborate and perform with artists across musical genres, including Mary J Blige, Al Green, Herbie Hancock, KING, Paul McCartney, Kele Okereke (Bloc Party), the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Questlove, Salaam Rami, RZA, Tyler the Creator, Paul Weller, Stevie Wonder, Tracey Thorn, Logic, Mick Jenkins, and many more!
