Artist Statement
A Bronx Born Baby Boomer, Marty now shares his time between Maui & Los Angeles. Along the way, he spent a decade based out of Boulder, Colorado. He studied photography & design at New York City’s New School briefly, but the bulk of his experience has been through trial & error. Building upon the idea that “the world & its people are quite different from the way they appear,” Marty applied his art to the creation of psychedelic lightshows. During the Cultural Revolution of the 60’s and late 70’s, Marty performed in scores of concert extravaganzas. His earlier work with the lightshows lent heavily to his use of intense color and ever changing movement onstage. Marty’s experience and ideas about altered states of consciousness lead directly to many of his creations. Believing that “beyond the initial appearance of the image is the seed of a different truth,” he searches for a more mysterious image. Occasionally, he finds himself conscious that his soul is at one with the universe, moment by moment. These are the moments of creation.

About The Artist
Steve Rinaldi, 16 year Maui Resident and Designer/Drafter, returns to oil painting after a 20 year hiatus of raising a family. His Painterly style is representational and locally inspired, with his portraits revealing the essence of an individual and his landscapes inspiring a sense of light and awe. Steve’s current ambition is to become proficient at “Alla Prima” painting; creating a finished artwork in a single, one day session. The prolific, “Alla Prima” driven style is evident throughout many of his charcoal sketches and oil paintings.
Self-taught, Steve began his artist career in Oregon at the age of 14. Over the years he has supplemented his knowledge and experience with artists workshops from Vincent Ciglia, Ispra, Italy; David Gray, Widbey Island, Washington; and, on Maui, Patrick McGowan, Dick Nelson, Carmen Garnder, and Mary Whyte.
