Exhibit: Schaefer Portrait Challenge
January 16-March 18, 2018; Opening Reception January 14 Schaefer International Gallery; Tue – Sun 10am – 5 pm (Also open before Castle Theater shows and during intermission)
This highly anticipated statewide juried exhibition has been held as a triennial since 2003, and continues to present the unique ethnic spectrum of Hawaii’s people through the skills of artists and their explorations in portraiture. A broad range of interpretations and styles are used to tell the unique stories of our island communities. Artists’ accomplishments are acknowledged with two substantial cash awards through the Jurors Choice Award and the Marian Freeman People’s Choice Award. Our invited jurors are Charlie Cohan (O‘ahu), Linda Bennett (Kaua‘i), and Jennifer Owen (Maui). FREE ADMISSION

Techniques in Portraiture
Thursday, February 15, 2018 & Thursday, February 22, 2018; Schaefer International Gallery, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Quick Draw Night

Marian Freeman People’s Choice Award Reception
Friday, March 9, 2018; Schaefer International Gallery; 5:30 pm
Based on the popular votes of the visitors to the exhibition, one artist will receive this $5,000 award. FREE ADMISSION
ArT=Mixx: NOSTALGIA
Saturday, February 3, 2018; Schaefer International Gallery/Yokouchi Pavilion; 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Held in conjunction with the exhibit, the event will feature guest artists, DJs, and live performances. This event is free and open to anyone 21 and over. Food and beverages will be available throughout the evening. The theme for this edition is NOSTALGIA, a flashback to the ‘70s and ‘80s and childhood memories, and features music by DJs Stephan Jacobs and Blake Rizzo, visuals by Professor Lightwave, various performance artists, and portraiture in the Gallery. Costume up, mingle, and connect to the arts! Must be 21+ w/ID. FREE ADMISSION
